Bangladesh enjoys six seasons in a year each distinct from the other in respect of gaiety, color and complexion. The six seasons not only shape and reshape, but also mould and influence the lifestyle of the people. Each of the seasons displays its own characteristics and its own unique weather.
The six seasons are : Summer, Rainy, Autumn, Late Autumn, Winter and Spring.
Summer Season
Summer is the first season of the year. It consists of the Bangla months of Baishakh and Jaistha (April-May). During this period the days are longer than the nights. It is the warmest season of the year. On account of terrible heat stress, canals, tanks, beels (lowland), etc, dry up. Devastating nor’easter which local name is Kalboishakhi with the accompaniment comes with thunder, lightning, terrible wind and downpour. It is rich in juicy fruits. Fruits of different kinds and sizes such as mango, lichi and jackfruit ripen during this season and create a festive mood among the rural people. However in this season people are very happy to observe “Pohela Boishak” (Bangla New Year) with a very festive way like singing, dancing, eating the traditional foods etc.
What you’ll enjoy: Yes, this is the season for whom people are waiting aggressively to enjoy traditional Bangladeshi fruits like Aam (mango), Jam (blackberry), Khatal (jackfruit), Lichu (litchi), Anarash (pineapple), Tarmuj (watermelon) and so on. You’ll find fruit festival in all most all corner of the country.
Rainy Season
After summer the Rainy season comes with its torrential rains often flooding and inundating rivers, meadows, fields and countryside. It consists of the Bangla months name Ashar and Sravan (June-July). During this time the sky often remains cloudy. Sometimes it rains cats and dogs. Due to heavy and frequent rains rivers, ponds, canals, beels, fields, etc are full to the brim. Sometimes there is flooding which causes great hardship to people. In many areas boats become the chief earnings of communication. The country, as if, washes in fresh waters when bloom and rhythmic sounds of rainfall look likes a melodious symphony. However rains make all nature youthful and happy and the plants and tree with their green leaves present a view of life and hope. In this season a flower called “Kadam Ful” is found everywhere.
What you’ll enjoy: It’ll be raining raining and raining whole the day and night may continue. There is no poet in this world that didn’t make poem with rain. Our great poet Rabindra Nath Tagore wrote more than hundred with this. It’s a rhythmic sounds of rainfall look likes a melodious symphony. You can enjoy if you really want.
Autumn Season
The rainy season is followed by the early autumn. It consists of Bangla months Bhadra and Ashwin (August-September). In autumn the skies are blue and a cool wind blows. Flowers bloom, the rice grows and the corps begins. Blue, gold and green are the colors of autumn.
What you’ll enjoy: To enjoy the charm of floating white cloud in a blue sky over the landscape covered with white flower named “Kashful”, this is the only season.
Late Autumn Season
Then comes the late autumn with dews. Dews drop on grass, leaves and petals look like pearls in the morning sun. It consists of Bangla months Kartik and Agrahayan (October-November). It is the harvesting season. Farmers remain busy in cutting paddy. During this season, the land is at its luscious best. Festivals flourish to hail the harvest, the end of the floods, the coming of the new soil and the wonder of the rivers. By the season’s end, the air is no longer humid. Fresh airs replace the dry jute smell.
What you’ll enjoy: In this harvesting season people celebrate a ceremony called “Nobanna” which the time to enjoy the test of different cakes and sweets made from newly harvested crops all over the country.
Winter Season
There comes the winter. It comes with its fog, mist and cold and the earth dries and dust forms. Warm clothes are pulled out. It consists of Bangla months Poush and Magh (December-January). During this season the days are shorter than the nights. The sky remains cloudless and looks blue. Fogs are covered all over the sky in the morning. Sometime it shows dense fog and the sun does not show as usual. The weather becomes dry. Life in nature seems to be dull. But the sunshine is pleasant.
What you’ll enjoy: Very popular for the special seasonal native cakes and almost which made of date juice. Moreover, in this season you’ll find the verities kind of flower in everywhere.
Spring Season
Last of all comes the Spring. It is the king of seasons. It consists of Bangla months Falgoon and Chaitra (March-April). It comes with its beauty, glory, pomp and comfort. Nature looks bright and charming. Trees and plants put on new leaves and twigs. During this season countless varieties of flowers bloom and make the whole atmosphere delightful with their sweet smell. The birds are happy and pour out their melodious songs which joy the heart of all. In fact, it in the season of flowers, sweet songs of birds and of pleasant weather.
What you’ll enjoy: People celebrate “Pohela Falgun” at the first day of spring wearing colorful dresses. You can also enjoy the charm of bright flower bloomed nationwide.
